The PAN SOUTH AFRICAN LANGUAGE BOARD (PanSALB) ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD CHAIRPERSON & DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON
The Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB), in compliance with section 6(5) of the PanSALB Act as amended, has conducted the election of the Board’s new Chairperson, Prof Lolie Makhubu-Badenhorst and new Deputy Chairperson, Ms Seipati Dichabe. The announcement comes after an elective Board meeting held on 11 April 2022, at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre, Johannesburg.
The elections were presided over by the PanSALB Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lance Schultz, to ensure that the process is free and fair. “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Prof Lolie Makhubu-Badenhorst as Chairperson and Ms Seipati Dichabe as Deputy Chairperson. As members of the Board, both Prof Lolie Makhubu-Badenhorst and Ms Dichabe have displayed exceptional commitment in advancing the language mandate and promoting social cohesion. I look forward to serving under their leadership as we continue, as an institution, to strive towards having a positive impact on our stakeholders and creating a social compact to safeguard the gains of our democracy,” said Schultz.
“I feel deeply honoured to take on this role of Chairperson of the PanSALB Board at such a pivotal moment for the development of indigenous languages as we undertake to accelerate the elevation of their status in our society during the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032) as declared by UNESCO. As the Board we remain resolute in our commitment to provide for the recognition, implementation and furtherance of multilingualism in the Republic of South Africa” said Dr Makhubu-Badenhorst.
