The purpose of the position: The General Assistant is responsible for ensuring that the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) offices are clean, tidy and presentable at all times. The incumbent must ensure that all cleaning tasks allocated are performed effectively and efficiently as per PanSALB’s hygienic standards. Activities in this role include planning and administering catering services for staff and visitors, maintaining sufficient levels of refreshment and cleaning supplies, reporting any malfunctions related to the general office environments.
Requirements: Grade 12 or Matric certificate or equivalent qualification. Ability to communicate in at least three official languages of which one must be English.
Competences needed: Good interpersonal skills. Basic communications and literacy skills. Ability to perform routine tasks and knowledge of using cleaning materials and equipment.
Key Performance Areas: General cleaning which includes sweeping, scrubbing, mopping of floors, dusting, polishing of floors and furniture, emptying dirt bins daily, cleaning of windows, light shades and walls and thoroughly cleaning all kitchens and passages in the building. Ensure that cleaning equipment e.g. vacuum machines, mops, brooms, buckets etc. are clean after usage and securely stored. Ensure that there are sufficient supplies relating to general beverages e.g. coffee, tea, milk, sugar etc. as well as cleaning materials. Perform duties as per Health and Safety Regulations. Attending to ad hoc tasks as and when required.
