University of Cape Town (UCT) – Colloquium

The University of Cape Town (UCT), in conjunction with the University of KwaZulu Natal and the University of Free State, hosted a Colloquium on the New Language Policy Framework for Higher Education Institutions in South Africa, under the theme ‘Establishing Common Ground’ to advance practical and effective multilingualism in institutions of higher institutions on 28-29 September 2022. Also represented and participating in the colloquium were the University of Limpopo, the Sol Plaatjie University, University of Zululand, and the University of Mpumalanga. Delivering the Keynote Addresses during the two-day event were , the Chief Director of University Policy and Development Support at the DHET, Mr Mahlubi Mabizela, and the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) Executive Head of Languages, Mr Julius Dantile.  The inaugural colloquium comes after the promulgation of the Language Policy Framework for Institutions of Higher Education by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) which came into effect on 01 January 2022.
