PanSALB CONGRATULATES UNISA HONORARY DOCTORATE RECEIPIENTS IN AFRICAN LANGUAGES, DR MOLOKO MASHAMAITE AND REV DR LEKOTA
The Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) has congratulated Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in African Languages recipients and renowned legends of the airwaves, Dr Moloko Mashamaite (Thobela FM) and Rev Dr Lekota (Lesedi FM). The honorary doctorates were conferred to Dr Mashamaite and Dr Lekota by the University of South Africa (UNISA) on 29 November 2021.
The Board has described the recipients of the honour as living legends who have utilised their respective platforms to advance the development and promotion of their languages.
“With careers spanning over decades in radio broadcasting, we can think of no better duo for this tremendous honour conferred on Dr Mashamaite and Dr Lekota. This is testament to the critical role that broadcasters play in elevating the status of indigenous languages and ensuring that our languages enjoy parity of esteem” said PanSALB Chief Executive Office, Mr Lance Schultz.
“As the Board we are equally pleased that UNISA progressively pursues the Constitutional transformation agenda to reaffirm the significant role of indigenous languages in academia, as languages of acquiring knowledge and expanding this to acknowledge and honour some of the greatest contributors of our generation to their preservation” he concluded.
