PanSALB ANNOUNCES SHORTLISTED NOMINEES FOR THE MULTILINGUALISM AWARDS
Following a rigorous adjudication process undertaken by the adjudication panel made up of industry experts in various fields represented in the categories, the Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) hereby announces the shortlisted nominees for the PanSALB Multilingualism Awards for 2023/2024. These awards aim to recognise exceptional work in language development and to promote the use of South Africa’s linguistic resources, with a particular emphasis on mother tongue use and multilingualism.
The following individuals have been shortlisted under the Language and Literature category in their respective languages:
- For isiXhosa – Mzoli Mavimbela, Nokuzola Bakumeni Mbabama, Mohlauli Lethola
- For Sesotho sa Leboa – Mahlatsi Maqwenjo, Ms Mathapolane Jennett Mpepele, Mapule Moswane,
- For Setswana – Othusitse Lobelo, David Moroke, Kabelo Kgatea,
- For Xitsonga – Masingita Shivambu, Mixo Machebe, Themba Magaisa

ABOUT THE PanSALB MULTILINGUALISM AWARDS
The PanSALB Multilingualism Awards were established in 2002 to recognise individuals and organizations that have made exceptional contributions to preserve and promote all official languages in South Africa, including Khoi and San languages. The awards are aimed at celebrating linguistic diversity and raising awareness of the role of languages as a unifying agent in the country.
The winners of the 2023/24 Multilingualism Awards will be announced during an official ceremony on February 29, 2024, at the Durban International Convention Centre in KwaZulu-Natal.
