We are issuing this reminder to national departments, national public entities and national public enterprises to comply with the Use of Official Languages Act (UOLA) 12 of 2012.
As per Section 5 (1) of UOLA, it is mandatory to submit an annual report three months after the end of the previous financial year on:
(i)activities of their language unit,
(ii) implementation of their language policy, and
(iii) complaints received and the manner those complaints were

COMPLIANCE WITH THE USE OF OFFICIAL LANGUAGES ACT
In accordance with Section 9(2) of the Use of Official Languages Act (UOLA), No. 12 of
2012, national departments, national public entities and national public enterprise must
submit an annual report on:
(1) activities of their language unit,
(2) implementation of their language policy, and
(3) complaints received and the manner those complaints were handle.
UOLA Regulation 5(1) stipulates that the national departments, national public entities and
national public enterprises must submit the annual report contemplated at least three
months after the end of the financial year.
The Pan South African Language Board (PanSALB) is a constitutional institution
established in terms of Section 6(1)(5) to promote and create conditions for, the
development and use of all official languages, the Khoe and San languages and South
African Sign language.
It is in accordance with section 8(1) of the PanSALB Act that national departments, national
public entities and public enterprises supply PanSALB with any legislative, executive and/or
administrative measures adopted to promoting multilingualism through language policy
practices and use as per UOLA requirements.
The 2022/23 Annual Report on the Use of Languages must have been submitted to PanSALB by
30 June 2023 as per UOLA Regulations. National Departments that did not submit the Annual
Reports by the said date must do so before or not later than 14 July 2023 through the following
